I'm beginning to notice how hard it is to keep up with a conversation or anything on the chat box for that matter due to the large amounts of communication happening at once.

With that being said, I was just wondering what you would all think if we maybe had separate channels for people to talk to sort of reduce this 'chat flooding'.

We could go several ways about this:
1. Keep only 1 channel but make general chat joinable/leaveable, so you can focus on /msg
2. Make general chat have a limited message of 1 per minute, add several separate channels for players to join/meet in
3. Get rid of general chat and force players to join a channel before speaking

And I'm sure there are many other ways, but those are the top 3 I can think of. So I open this discussion to you all, what do you think about the chat system? Too cluttered? Fine the way it is? If so, what are some things we can do to fix this.

I think that we should have Differant channels to talk becuase the global chat gets a little fast paced and makes it hard for a lot of people to talk.

I think there should be a donator chat, along with making the general chat joinable/leavable

These are good ideas, but wouldn't it make the chat really quiet because everyone will be talking to their friends. It might make it feel less fun maybe? I dunno just a thought.

I have a couple of suggestions:

LOCAL CHAT - this chat would be for everyone who is within 100 or so blocks of each other. This way friends can talk to each other in groups, as long as they are close to each other. This would help get rid of a LOT of the spamminess in global. Local chat should be a different color (like a light yellow or something) to help distinguish it from global. All staff should have access to a /muteall command that forces everyone into local chat. That way if people do not use the local chat, and global gets spammy for no reason, staff can still moderate it.

GLOBAL CHAT - This should pretty much stay the way it is, although the option of leaving global chat is nice. The only problem I see with this is if a member is doing something they should not be, and a staff member tries to correct it, that member would be unable to see it.

PRIVATE MESSAGES - Can we pretty please make this a different color? Like a light purple or something? I always lose my private messages in a sea of chat. If they were a different color, I'd be able to keep up with them better and better assist the players who are PMing me.

DONATOR CHAT - Eh,

I've seen this done on another server before and it was really effient.

All are good points, but then we'll have people harassing other people in separate chats and trusteds won't be able to help that well :/, I mean people go to extremes harassing people as is (tpa spamming, pm spamming, chest shop spamming ect.)

That's true. But all you have to do is be within range of the person spamming in order to see if they're spamming or not.

But that's the problem I enjoy playing the game not tpaing to people in order to see if they're spamming or not, and they'll stop if a trusted just appears for no apparent reason :/

The reason we even have the chat plugin we have now is becase we had the idea of selling separate channels for a high price (like, $1000, but that was back when towns were cheaper. Maybe $2000 - $5000 now?). This was so that people could make custom channels for their "clans" or for their towns and not be spammy noobs in global chat. People that owned a channel could also kick/ban/blacklist/whitelist players so mods/admins didn't have to moderate them. We never got around to implementing this system though. I'm pondering to see if this is still a good idea, but meh.

that's quite expensive, i mean most people struggle to get $1000, but if someone wants it that badly they'll have to start saving

The idea is that it would be for a town/clan, and it would be a shared cost.
